Minutes of the CUC Council meeting 13/5/2006. Present- Steven Cooper (CCMS), Gordon Lawrence, Will Carroll (Treasurer), Giles Parkinson (Fisher House), Emma Hancox (secretary), Richard Smith (acting convenor). Late- Jenny Auton (SPEAK) Apologies- Richard Hewitt (Taizé), Emma Riseborough (council elected rep). 1) Opened with the Lord's Prayer. 2) Approval of minutes from last meeting. 3) Matters arising- . Booking of a stall for freshers' fayre- stalls have not been made available yet but we need to keep looking at the CUSU website to check. . A new senior treasurer needs to be elected as Simon Perry will soon be retiring. The next deans and chaplains' meeting will be in Michelmas term. A representative of CUC should go to talk about CUC. We could ask if anyone is willing to be senior treasure there. Potential people to contact about the position are Roger Greeves (dean of Clare), David Mackenzie Mills (chaplain at Trinity), Ben Quash or Ian Thomson. It would be good to get some one who is positively and actively interested in ecumenicalism. . CUC Rounders, Tuesday 20th June, 3pm. Gordon will approach Chris Hack to ask if he is willing to organise this. . Punt race, Friday 16th June, 1pm. Will Carroll is doing the organising. . Freshers' handbook 2006. This will need some updating, Will Carroll volunteered to organise this. Printing and photo copying resources of a minimum expense will need to be found. The Lutheran society is now up and running, their details will need updating. . Links with CICCU. The possibility of writing to CICCU, to clarify CUC's position on establishing informal links, was discussed. It was decided that CUC would not contact CICCU on a society level for the mean time. . At the Freshers' Fayre Gordon was often asked what the difference between CUC and CICCU were. It would be wise to have an answer ready. It is important to point out that CICCU exists foremost for evangelism whereas CUC exists to foster understanding between Christian groups in Cambridge. . Election of new convenor and treasurer. Present members voted and postal votes from Emma Riseborough and Richard Hewitt were taken into account. Will Carroll was elected as convenor and Jenny Auton as treasurer. . Richard Smith's name was removed from the CUC account and Jenny Auton and Will Carroll were added. . Methsoc colleges walk, Monday 19th June. An email needs to be sent to the CUC members' list advertising this a week before, and about two days before. . Michelmas term discussion groups. Will Carroll has agreed to organise these. A venue will need to be found, potentially Fisher House library. A Thursday night slot seemed to work well for discussion groups in the past year. . Review of the bar quiz, 11th May. Around 15-20 people came this time, which was a lot less than the bar quiz in May of last year and in October 2005. Our advertising of the event could have been better. For previous events Gordon has put posters up in all the college chapels he can access. It is possible to access the Deans' and chaplains' list to ask them to advertise events, and the Faculty of Divinity list. It is also good to advertise events within chapel communities. Gordon needs to send Emma H the list of CUC college reps. Emails advertising events should be less low key in the future. . CUC bank account. This needs to be transferred to a bank with an ethical policy, probably the Co-operative. 4) AOB . Unity service, Tuesday 23rd January. Venue and practicalities will need sorting out. The service could be preceded by a dinner or followed by a drinks' reception, either way it would be good to organise something officially. It would be good to have an annual CUC dinner, but a drinks' reception would probably lend itself better to the service. A location needs to be found where there is the space and facilities to make drinks. It would be nice to hold it in a church rather than a college chapel this time; suggestions are Wesley church, Emmanuel URC or St Andrew's street Baptist church. We need to publicise the service to St Edmund's in advance this time so that they are less likely to arrange a service at the same time. When we have confirmed the venue we will need to inform the deans and chaplains. . Prayer service. It would be good to have a CUC prayer to be written on a card that can be passed round our members and perhaps prayed at the same time. We could make a CUC resource pack with daily Bible readings and prayers for the week of prayer for Christian Unity. It was suggested that we could get a CUC resource pack together for the freshers' fayre, but it was thought that this might be too difficult. There is a monthly prayer group at St Barnabas' church bringing different churches together, at the beginning of each month. It would be worth investigating this further. . Big Dress. Jenny Auton requested prayer for the Big Dress which still needs money if it is to go ahead. Any ideas for fundraising initiatives should be suggested to Jenny. If everything goes as planned, an email needs to be sent to the CUC list about what is happening. Help with publicity and flyering will be needed nearer the time. It would be good to send out separate emails about the prayer and information events and the Big Dress itself. CCMS have a show in the Big Dress on 18th June. . The next CUC meeting will be Friday 16th June 12noon (before the punt race) in the Latimer room, Clare College. . It was decided that all the money from the CUC bar quiz will go to Jimmy's night shelter, not part of it to CUC and part to Jimmy's as previously stated. 5) Closed with the Grace.
