Minutes of the CUC Council meeting 25/4/06. Present: Richard Smith (acting convenor), Emma Riseborough (council elected rep), Giles Parkinson (Fisher House rep), Gordon Lawrence, Will Carroll (treasurer), Ruth Wallace (Fusion rep), Emma Hancox (secretary). Apologies: Steven Cooper (CCMS), Simon Perry (senior treasurer). 1) Opened in prayer. 2) Minutes of last meeting approved. 3) Matters arising. - Nomination and election of new convenor. Will Carroll is willing to be convenor if someone can take over as treasurer. Someone needs to be found. Electing the new convenor will have to wait until the next meeting as enough council members need to be present to vote. - Football in May week. Rounders will be held at Churchill College on Tuesday 20th June, 3pm organised by Chris Hack. - Punt race will be Friday 16th June, 1pm for lunch, 2pm start. Will Carroll will make posters. - No term card will be made this term due to exams, instead an email of all events will be sent. There will be a term card in the next two terms. - Formal Hall at Jesus College, Thursday 4th May. - Ecumenical bar quiz, Thursday 11th May, Fisher House library, bring own drinks, soft drinks will be provided. Rounds of ten questions will be prepared by different people; Gordon Lawrence- picture round and science round, Giles Parkinson- history round, Richard Smith- music round and Emma Riseborough- Bible round. CUC will take some of the money from the quiz; the rest will be donated to Jimmy's night shelter. Gordon will use the old template to make a new poster which we will distribute jointly. - Booking stall at the Freshers' Fair. Richard Smith needs to look at the CUSU website to see when stalls are being made available. This job may be delegated to someone else at a later date. - Methsoc Chapel walk, Monday 19th June all day. Can be advertised to the CUC list. Methsoc members are raising money for Wesley Church; CUC members can raise money for other causes if they wish. - Prayer service will be arranged for Michelmas term. The room in Portugal Place could be used for drop in prayer. Perhaps it would be better to arrange corporate prayer. This can be discussed at the next meeting. - Discussion groups won't happen this term but will continue in the next two terms. A change of focus is needed, perhaps looking at issues rather than denominations. We could organise debates between two people with different beliefs. As we will need two people for each discussion group, we could organise four groups over eight weeks. We could get Maggie Dawn (chaplain at Robinson) to speak. Will Carroll agreed to organise this over the summer holiday if he is given a list of contacts. 4) AOB - Deans and Chaplains' meeting is 24th May, St Catherine's College. It would be good to go, so we can explain what CUC is and see how they can use us to build a link with students. - Orthodox society. Richard Smith will attempt to find out if they are still running, who they are and what they do. It would be good to ask if they want to be involved in the Unity service. - Fusion and Methsoc have not paid subs for 2005/6. Subs for Fusion will be dropped for last year as we had no Fusion rep. - CUC will advertise the Big Dress. Jenny Auton needs to be contacted to find out the final dates. - Next CUC meeting will be Saturday 13th May, 2pm in Clare College, room to be confirmed. 5) Closed with the Grace.
