Minutes of CUC Council Meeting, 04/03/06, 11am Present: Steven Cooper (CCMS), Will Carroll (MethSoc), Richard Smith (treasurer), Richard Hewitt (Taize), Gordon Lawrence (convenor), James Hallam (incoming Fisher House rep), Chris Hack (outgoing Fisher House rep), and Jenny Auton (SPEAK). Apologies: Emma Hancox 1) Opened with the Lord's prayer 2) Matters arising - AGM minutes cannot be approved by the Council, only by those present at the AGM, but an error was found: amount of money should say £59.18, not £59. - CUFF - Fisher House have affiliated and MethSoc are planning to. The other societies are encouraged to affiliate. - Fusion rep still needed - Richard Smith is trying to find one. - Bar Quiz and unity service raised £125 for charity. Richard Smith needs to hand over this money. - Church crawl schedule - difficult to satisfy everyone. It was recommended that next year the church crawl involves the 11:15am mass at Fisher House. - Minutes of last meeting approved. 3) Feeback on events: Unity service was good. We need a preacher for next year, since Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor cannot come. It was suggested that a Methodist preacher was asked. MethSoc will ask Leslie Griffths. It is recommended that the service is not held on the Monday next year, due to the clash with the St Edmund's service. 4) Ideas for future events: - Chapel crawl round all Cambridge college chapels. It was suggested that the MethSoc colleges' walk, which involves visiting chapels in May Week, be advertised to CUC instead. - Football in May Week? Last year few people came, so it was decided to have a rounders game instead. Christ Hack agreed to provide bats etc. It will be held on Tuesday 20 June at 3pm at Churchill. - It was suggested that an Ecumenical bar quiz is held next term in week 2 or 3. James agreed to ask the Fisher Society if this is ok. - Punt race - will be held on Friday June 16: picnic lunch at 1pm; punt race at 2pm. - Organise prayer service? Or advertise 24/7 prayer to the list (cambridgeprayer.org.uk) and organise another prayer day, but perhaps not next term. - Continue discussion groups? Not next term but maybe in Michelmas. - Have more social events? - Have a forum? Use christiancambridge.org and advertise events by emailing them to the moderator of the site. - Or an opt-in discussion email list. - Need to start thinking about the Michelmas freshers' ceilidh next term. 5) Elections: Emma Hancox and Emma Riseborough elected as council elected reps. Emma Hancox. elected as secretary and Will Carroll as treasurer. Richard Smith elected as acting convenor, since he will be leaving in June. Next term, we hope to elect a convenor for the whole year. 6) The council agreed it would like the senior treasurer to be present at meetings, so the next meeting will be organised by asking him when he is free and seeing if we can accommodate his availability. 7) AOB - Fairtrade Fortnight 8) Closed with the grace.
