- Society news:
Lots of freshers' event going on. Fisher Society having a freshers' party on Sunday; CGS still carrying out International Student Welcome - going well.
- Matters arising:
Fitz ought to be ok to host Formal Hall on 16th November. Carys to organize.
- Ceilidh:
[discussion somewhat overtaken by subsequent events]
Connor has discovered that King's may not allow (live) music in the Chetwynd Room; has asked for confirmation. Ed from the Timber Merchants is emailed to ask whether they would be able to work from a recording - replies to say that that would be unworkable. If event is in Chetwynd Room then alcohol would not be allowed - we can & should use bar next door. We do however have permission for food. Connor to discover ASAP whether we can use room and inform committee, and to look for ceilidh-type music at HMV. Everyone: pray!
Programme:
Connor to do gaelic prayer to start, Clare/Bex to do closing prayer. Reps to meet at 7:30. Kelly and Geoff to meet 7:15 at Sainsbury to buy food. Starting 8:00, finishing 10:00? - Connor to check. Interval in which reps will introduce societies. No charge but suggested donation of £2. Martin to make box and sign for donations. Everyone to remind their societies to come ASAP. Everyone to stay to clean up.
- Cambridge Chinese Christian Fellowship:
Have expressed an interest in the SCC/CUC, however no-one present has heard from them since. Kelly thinks Bex may be in contact with them. Bex to be asked.
- Constitution:
We were not quorate to vote on amendments since Clare has not been able to make it and has CCMS' postal vote. There was also not enough time to discuss all the points raised sufficiently. However general agreement (in theory) was reached on some points:
- "the various" in clause A2 of the proposed constitution may be deleted
- additional clarificatory statements as suggested by Ark would be useful for the general reader, and so in general are welcomed.
Some proposed amendments demonstrate different readings of the proposed wording - this demonstrates that more careful wording is needed in places. In particular F3 should not be read to mean that the Council should feel obliged to vote for the most extreme candidates, in fact what is desired is the best balance of members of the Council.
No agreement was reached on the use (or not) of the word 'student' in A2 or D1. The number of Council-Elected Representatives desired was not discussed.
New draft to be prepared and discussed with enough time to propose for next meeting.
- Close with the grace at 13:59.
Date of next meeting (c. 2 weeks time) to be determined by email.
