Minutes of the meeting of the Student Christian Council,
Monday 4th October, 9:30am, 13 Portugal Place
- Simon opened in prayer.
- Apologies for absence: Hannah Vaughan-Spruce and Connor McDonough (Fisher House) are at an ecumenical meeting in Oxford!; Chris Rayson (outgoing Secretary); Chau Diem Nguyen (CGS).
- Present: Kelly Hockey (convenor), Carys Underdown (ex-convenor), Simon Perry (Senior Treasurer), Becky Bowtell (Fusion), Martin Harker (MethSoc) Steven Cooper (CCMS), Geoff Martin (Ark), Geoff Stevenson (Fusion), Clare McQuitty (Taizé Worship)
- Societies' Fair: aims - to advertise us and our aims. Stall to say both 'SCC' and 'Christians in Unity in Cambridge' Steven to supply logos. Needed - poster for Ceilidh, booklets, term cards, banner. Provisional rota compiled - Kelly to finish and circulate. Taizé will use part of the SCC stall.
- Booklet: Steven has prepared a draft booklet including an introduction to CUC, a page for each member society and the list of Cambridge churches. Kelly to take copy from Steven, make amendments (including addition of Catholic Graduate Society and advert) and take to be printed.
- New Secretary: Bex offers. SCC unanimously accepts Becky Bowtell as Secretary.
- Term card: Kelly compiles member society events for term card. Kelly to produce term card.
- Ceilidh: 8:00pm - 11:00pm, 16th October, Chetwyn Room, King's. Connor to book (for free!) Clare to produce poster and email round. Refreshments - Kelly has 6 bottles of wine, King's bar is nearby. Each society to bring some food. Society advertising: on pillars, or in room behind - need to book other room as well. Kelly to ask Connor to write Gaelic prayer. Interlude: Kelly to introduce CUC and society reps to briefly introduce their societies (reps meet at 7:30).
- CUC Formal Halls: Kelly proposes that we should run termly formal halls. General agreement. This term: Tuesday 16th November at Fitz. Carys to arrange.
- Discussion group: Simon to give Maggie Dawn's details and pass to Kelly. CUC to publicise the group, which is run by Maggie, via the CUC booklet.
- Minutes of last meeting not already covered: Revelate - we will invite Revelate members to be individual members of the new CUC.
- Kelly to ask Catholic Graduate Society if they want to join SCC/CUC.
- Presentation of draft constitution for CUC by Steven and Carys. All present generally happy with the draft. To be submitted by Steven with sufficient notice for the next meeting. Reps to circulate round their societies for approval. Changing the constitution requires a unanimous vote, so anyone unhappy or wishing to change the proposed constitution to let the SCC know ASAP.
- Letter to Deans and Chaplains about the SCC-CUC transition has been written by Chris and Kelly. Kelly to check letter with Simon. Letter can then be emailed around Deans and Chaplains mailing list. Simon also to ask if they could publicise Ceilidh in particular.
- College reps need finding. Can then be put on term cards by next term.
- CUSU Societies' Fair stall allocation: Martin to prepare letter and liaise with other societies in Fenners Hall to express our disapproval at CUSU's allocation methods.
- Publicity for CUC relaunch: Geoff S. has TCS contacts, Clare knows Varsity news editor.
