An introduction to CUBB...
Cambridge University Brass Band was set up in 1987, as an entirely student run and self funded university society. Since its early days, the band has enjoyed large membership, and has attracted high quality brass players from all over the country. The society's aim was, and remains, to promote the unique music and musicianship enjoyed in a traditional brass band. This has been well achieved, and the band enjoys a good reputation in the university and local community. The band plays in regular concerts during term-time at university events in and around Cambridge. You'll also find us playing Christmas carols outside the Grafton centre and links between the band and the local council, as well as churches and schools allow regular performances in the surrounding communities. Details about the band's availability for concerts can be obtained from the band's concert manager.
The band also undertakes an annual tour at Easter time, and in previous years we have travelled all over the country to places including Durham, the Malvern Hills, South Yorkshire and Liverpool. Last year saw the band visited Mid and West Wales and in 2007 CUBB is again heading West and we will be visiting south Wales. The band is open to all students in Cambridge (and others at the committee's discretion), with no auditions. If you're interested in joining us, feel free to turn up to a rehearsal (Thursday 8-10pm; Lee Hall, Wolfson College) or contact our musical director for more information. |
