The 52nd Varsity Match 2001.
The 52nd Varsity match was held in the University Parks of Oxford on the 19th of May. Conditions
were perfect with moderate temperatures and only a light breeze. This year the gents shot the usual Albion round (3 dozen arrows at each of 80,
60 and 50 yards with imperial scoring) while the ladies shot a Windsor (3 dozen arrows at each of 60, 50
and 40 yards). The top four archers from each university counted as the representative teams. In the favourable
conditions Cambridge(3408) overpowered Oxford(2888) by what is believed to be a record margin of 520 points. The Varsity Match individual
record score was broken by Cambridge's Andy Somers with a score of 922. James Keogh came a close second with his tally of
914 points.
