The selection
procedure for membership to the Air Squadron is necessary because
of the amount of applicants and is inevitably competitive.
Candidates are selected through interviews, held shortly after Freshers' Fair,
with entry into the Squadron in early December.
The interview lasts between 30-45 minutes and covers
topics such as your background, family, schooling, hobbies and interests
in and outside school, your knowledge of current affairs, the RAF, and your
interest in flying.
Finally you will be asked why you want to
join our Squadron and why you think you are worth the money we would
spend teaching you to fly.
In general we are looking for young men and
women who have both an interest in flying and the potential to be
future officers and aircrew. Applicants should be sociable,
enthusiastic, self-motivated and good team members who are keen
to attempt something new and challenging. Previous flying experience
however is not required - all we seek is potential.
If successful at the main interview you will be asked to forward
documentation on to your family doctor to confirm your fitness to
join the UAS.
