In Lent Term 2007, CUALA hosted a very successful internal debate, attracting a range of talented public speakers. CUALA intends to host more internal debates in the future. If you are interested in debating or improving your public speaking skills, what better way than to debate in an informal and cozy atmosphere where drinks and food are provided after the intellectual banter? Please email our Vice President at vicepresident@cuala.co.uk if you're interested in debating - prior debating experience is not necessary!
Internal Debates - Lent Term 2007
Venue: Junior Parlour, Trinity College
Date: Sunday 4th February (Tomorrow!)
Time: 7:30 - 9:30pm
Refreshments will be provided.
CUALA introduces our first ever internal Cambridge debate! This will be
an extremely exciting occasion in which 4 committee debaters will take to the
stage and fiercely argue on a point of principle!
This occasion will be a wonderful opportunity for our members, not only
to come and watch (and possibly amuse themselves with) the skills
and intellect (hopefully anyway!) of our speakers, but also a chance to
discuss some of the most prominent issues in contemporary society!
Two debates have been scheduled for the evening. The arguments will
first be brought forward by the designated debaters, and after 2 minutes on
each side, the proposal will be opened to the floor for public discussion
and debate.
This is an event which the committee of Lent 2007 has inaugurated, and
we really hope that our members will join us for some relaxed and fun
discussion among friends, accompanied by the delicious nibbles
that inevitably come with any CUALA event!

The 2007 CUALA vs OUAPS (Oxford University Asia-Pacific Society) Debate
The internal debate in Lent Term served as a prelude to this major event jointly organised by CUALA and OUAPS. Three talented speakers from each society argued passionately and skillfully on the very topical and intellectually stimulating issue of whether nuclear weapons should be strictly banned in the Middle East.
CUALA would like to the Oxbridge debate to be an annual event. If you are interested in competitive debating, please email our Vice President at vicepresident@cu ala.co.uk.
We at CUALA would like to thank our Cambridge debaters for all their dedication and commitment. While the Oxonians were victorious on the day, the judges made explicit that their final decision was not a very close call and certainly not unanimous.
To celebrate this very successful and enjoyable CUALA-OUAPS event, we would like to put you in the audience's seat and invite you to view a video recording of the debate.
