Welcome to the Cambridge University Asia Law & Business Association (CUALA)! Established in 1998 under the auspices of Dr. Stephanie Palmer, CUALA, with its 700 members, associates and a worldwide network, is one of the largest and most dynamic societies in Cambridge. We are also honoured to have as our patrons the former Chief Justices of Singapore and Hong Kong - Hon. Mr Yong Pung How and Hon. Mr. Andrew Li respectively.

2008 is set to be an exciting year for CUALA. In Lent term, CUALA is proud to present our flagship event: the Annual Conference.  Following the success of last year's Conference, CUALA brings you once again our first class Conference on the latest economic, legal and social developments in Asia, the largest of its kind in Cambridge. This promises to be an unmissable event, featuring high profile guest speakers from different backgrounds and bringing some of the most contentious current affairs to the forefront of debate!  In attendance will be leading experts in the field of Asia, giving you the opportunity to listen to and challenge some of the cutting-edge theories of our time.  We greatly look forward to greeting you all on this much-anticipated day!

In the meantime, the committee has and will continue to work hard in maintaining the CUALA tradition, and offer you some of the most stimulating and fresh events on the Cambridge calendar! With personal development workshops specially delivered by leading law and business oriented firms as well as a series of formal halls, Chinese New Year celebrations and punting trips, CUALA looks forward to sharing these exciting times with you! As always, your ideas and suggestions are more than welcome.

Best Wishes!

Chinese New Year Dinner, followed by wine tasting

With Chinese New Year just round the corner, we wish you, on behalf of CUALA, a warmhearted 'Kung Xi Fa Cai!' (Happy New Year or literally, Best Wishes for Prosperity)!! May the Year of the Rat bring you fortune, health and happiness!

As is Chinese tradition, this is the time to celebrate with friends, bidding farewell to the past year and welcoming in the fresh start together. But instead of having the 'same old' celebratory lunch or dinner, why not have a change, mix and match and try something new? Join us and celebrate CNY in a unique and memorable way! The details are as follows:

CUALA Chinese New Year 2008 Dinner + WiNe TaStInG!

Date: Wednesday February 6th

Time: 6pm for dinner; 8pm for wine tasting

Venue TBC

Price: £2 (members & non-members) for dinner; £8 (members)/£18 (non-members)for wine tasting

On the new year eve (6th Feb), CUALA will be organizing a wine-tasting party with the Cambridge Wine Merchants, where the staff will introduce you to a wide range of reds and whites, in addition to some whisky and port. The tasting will include some light snacks to demonstrate how different alcohols can intensify taste.

The price for members is a mere subsidized 8 pounds, non-members is 18 pounds. (if you can do the maths: you can become a life member and pay member wine tasting fee for the same amount!!)

There will be a Chinese New Year Dinner before the wine tasting. Please do join us for what promises to be a wonderful gathering to meet all your CUALA friends and make new ones!

After all, there will be lots (and we seriously mean LOTS) of good, authentic Chinese food for the massively reduced price of just £2 (cheaper than almost any and all college dinners)! In fact, because we're so keen to have you along with us - we're offering the same price to all non-members too!! It'll be a great way to find out more about CUALA and meet everyone on the Committee at its very First event!

There will be 20 places available. As places are truly limited (many thanks to those of you who've already signed up), please do send round a quick email to Michelle, our Treasurer, at treasurer@cuala.co.uk

Please send your email before February 4th, otherwise your place will NOT be guaranteed!

Looking very much forward to seeing you there!

Happy Chinese New Year!!
