CUAC Code of Conduct (training)

Throws:

Shot Put

Duites of Coach/Squad Leader

Ensure that the circle, sector and implements are safe to use. Circle is clean and not too slippery, rim is in tact and not sharp anywhere.

Sector should be clear of obstacles and clear of large divots that might induce

tripping up of people.

Take a decision as to whether or not the weather conditions are suitable for training, and cancel training if necessary. In particular, if the implements  are becoming too slippery due to wet conditions, or visibility is so badly impaired as to make it difficult to see the flight of implements.

Advise the athletes when it is a suitable time to throw, using the pre-determined signal (horn or similar).

Ensure athletes are warmed up and knowledgeable of a safe technique and the

hazards. Ensure athletes waiting are behind the thrower.

Make sure everyone understands when they are to throw and when they are to collect. Carry shots back to circle, do not throw. If athletes are experienced then a system of

safe rolling may be used only if everyone is happy and understands the system.

Ensure athletes are aware of their own duties/responsibilities as outlined

below.

Duties of athlete:

To pay attention to what is going on inside the circle whenever someone is

Wear suitable footwear for the event (either throwing shoes, or suitable

trainers).

Advise the athletes when it is a suitable time to throw, using the pre-determined signal (horn or similar).

Ensure that all athletes are behind the entrance to the cage, and stood well back from the cage, when someone is throwing.
