18/02/08 CAMBRIDGE MEN DOMNATE AT VFEAR!!

For the first time ever Varsity Field Events and Relays was held indoors. The venue was Lee Valley and Cambridge Men took full advantage of the better conditions and proved that last year's varsity results look fully reproducible with a 4-2 win on the track and a 7-1 bashing of Oxford in the field. This is the first time Cambridge Men have won both competitions since 2004. Full results are available here. For other indoor results from this year's indoor season click here.

01/01/08 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Happy New Year and Welcome Back to Cambridge!! This term sees the indoor season take off with many athletes off to Lee Valley for the SEAA's on the 20th/21st Jan but with the key focus on VFEAR (again, Lee Valley) on Sunday 17th February. For full fixture list click here.

The first full club training will be this coming Monday 14th, 3pm at the track. Check the training schedule for full details, click here.

07/11/07 WOMEN WIN FRESHER'S MATCH

On Sunday 4th Novemeber Cambridge Freshmen and Women hosted their Oxford counterparts for the year's first Athletics clash. Happily our strong intake of women left Oxford wanting, though to balance things Oxford retained the men's trophy. Full results here.

16/10/07 CUPPERS RESULTS IN - SELWYN WIN MENS WHILST CATZ TAKE LADIES

Over two pleasant days of competition last weekend and some strong competition, Selwyn and Catz proved victorious, with some solid freshman performances all round. For full results click here.

10/09/07 BADDELELY MAKES WORLD CHAMPS FINAL AND FINISHES 9th!!!

After progressing easily to the semi-finals of the IAAF World Athletics Championships 1500m, CUAC Alumni and Achillean Andy Baddeley benefited from both his explosive sprint finish and a fall amongst the favourites to qualify for the final in emphatic style. When it came to the final a highly variable pace posed Badders with a challenging tactical situation which he weathered admirably for someone so inexperienced at global champsionships to finish 9th of 14 in a time of 3:35.95. After the race, in a BBC interview Badders seemed upbeat, thankful for the experience and optimistic about his medal chances in Beijing at the Olympics next year. GO BADDERS! Well done from everyone at CUAC!

20/08/07 CUAC NEEDS YOU: FLOODLIGHT APPEAL!!!

Calling all members (and anyone else). The planning application for the revised floodlights plan has been submitted and now needs support from likely users and other people to convince the council to push the plans through. This can be done with a simple letter - either by post or online. Please click here for more details.

12/08/07 Baddeley to lead Achilles charge in Osaka

Three Achilles Athletes have been selected to represent GB in the 11th IAAF World Championships to be held in Osaka, Japan. Amongst them is recent graduate of Cambridge Andy Baddeley (1500m), tipped as an outside chance of a medal (see his website here). Joining him on the quest for glory are Mara Yamauchi (O) in the marathon and Hatti Dean (O) in the steeplechase. We wish them and all GB athletes the best of luck!

See the full GB team here.

Also flying the flag at World Level are ex-CUAC favourite Steve Green (400m, 4x400m) and current CUAC legend Ben Carne (400mH, 4x400m) in the 2007 Universiade (World Student Games). See the full BUSA team here.

28/07/07 Carne takes 5th at European U23 in preparation for World Student Games

After winning his heat comfortably in the 400mH at the European U23 Champs in Debrecen (HUN) CUAC's Ben Carne looked in fine form for the final. However, while breaking 51 seconds for the third time this year, Carne's 50.83 was only good enough for 5th place - a result with which Ben, who always sets high standards for himself, was not satisfied. This said Carne was experimenting with a new stride pattern that we hope will stand him in even better stead for his races in Bangkok at the 2007 Universiade (World Student Games). Ben's Campaign starts at 0940 (local time) on the 11th August. Good luck from everyone at CUAC.

28/06/07 Harvard/Yale dominate Americas Match

It was a double victory for the visiting combined Harvard and Yale teams as the men won 14 events to 6 and the ladies won 15 events to 4. Congratulations go to them and thanks also for such a great time. full results available here.

10/06/07 Ben Carne Selected for EUROPA CUP!!!

Following the injury of Dai Green (who Ben would have been quicker than anyway), Ben has been called up to represent GB at this weekends EUROPA CUP. Only one athlete per event per country is selected and for GB over the long hurdles it CUAC's very own Carnivore. Ben goes into the race ranked 5th behind some world class European athletes such as Poland's Plawgo n . The whole event will be broadcast by the BBC on saturday. Good luck Ben! I wonder if the other guys know the pain train is comin' !! Go CUAC.

04/06/07 National Title for Agbo and Carne has eyes set on European medal

Within the last few days Phyllis Agbo became National Champion in the Heptathlon in the England Athletics Combined Events at Stoke scoring 5471 points. Her closest rival was guess who? Our very own Grace Clements with a huge pb of 5436 pts. Ben Carne has also been flying the CUAC flag at high level with an astounding pb of 50.28s over the 400mH at a race in Switzerland on Saturday. Ben now looks very likely to be selected for the European U23's later this year where he has a realistic chance of a medal. Go CUAC.

21/05/07 ELECTION RESULTS - NEW COMMITTEE!!!

The results of the committee elections held at the AGM on 21st May were as follows:

Women's Captain: Lucy Spray

Hon. Sec.: Jon Cook

20/05/07 VARSITY VICTORIES - OXFORD DESTROYED

Yesterday the Light Blue Men ended Oxford's 9 Year Winning Streak with the biggest winning margin for 40 years. There were also victories for the Men's and Ladies Second Teams. Meanwhile there was heartache for the Ladies Blues who lost by 2 points - the narrowest losing margin on record. Full results here.

08/05/07 WEBSITE STARTS WORKING AGAIN, ANDY OWEN FIXES OBSCENITY PROBLEM AND OXFORD FIDDLE WITH FACEBOOK, oh and we did some athletics.

Apologies for the lack of recent updates. We had a technical gremlin which Andy Owen and Dan Bray kindly fixed, though the solution did result in one or two rude words appearing in the odd place on the website. These have now been fixed. So, updates to look for - click here for the results page where you will find details of the RAF Match, CUAC Sports and BUSA Outdoors. Special mentions go to Ben Carne who broke Steve Green's 400mH CUAC record at BUSA, running a massive pb of 51.22 and to Florence Cavalli who broke the ladies pole vault record with a solid (by her own rather high standards) 3.20m. Recently Phyllis broke her own 200mH CUAC record and Polly Keen broke the 2k s/c CUAC record. Go CUAC. Check out the all-time lists here (might not yet be updated). Oh and Oxford are naughty and fiddled with the facebook event. Bless 'em - apart from that really rude one who no-one seems to like.

22/04/07 ... WELCOME BACK!! 4 WEEKS TO VARSITY - CUAC SPORTS THIS SAT

With the Easter break over, Varsity is but 4 short weeks away. Some people have already been competing with several CUAC Athletes helping Achilles to a retention of the Kinnaird Trophy (and a 2nd in the Sward) on the 14th April in Kingston - results available click here. Then on the 21st April a good team went to RAF Cosford to face, amongst others, Oxford. The men came away 2nd (ahead of Oxford) beaten only by the RAF while the less complete women's team finished 6th.

Your next chance to get involved is CUAC Sports this saturday, in Cambridge. This is essential competition for anyone wanting to compete at varsity. Click here for details.

03/04/07 CUAC GO WWT AND ACTUALLY DO SOME TRAINING!!!

From March 18th to April 1st a total of 36 CUAC athletes including past president and legend Nav Childs together with three coaches (Pat, Bob and Rich - thanks all) spent between 4 days and 2 weeks sunbathing, dancing, drinking, eating, playing cards and... wait for it.... TRAINING on the lovely isle of Tenerife!! Many thanks to Achilles for the subsidy.

Tramps anyone?

Full report from Frank-the-Tank available here.

12/03/07 AGBO TAKES GOLD AT BUSA INDOORS

A small CUAC team made the journey to BUSA indoors in Sheffield for the weekend of 10th/11th March. There were many impressive p.b.'s (Owen, Coulsting, Cook, Carne, Richardson, Spray, Agbo to name a few) but by far CUAC's most notable performance came from Phyllis Agbo, GB Heptathlete who secured Gold in the long jump with a leap of 5.98m. Go Phyllis.

Full results available here.

04/03/07 STEVE GREEN TAKES GOLD AT EUROPEANS AND SOMETHING CALLED VFEAR HAPPENED TOO...!!!

Having been selected for the European indoors over 400m and the 4x400m, CUAC Alumni Steve Green didn't disappoint. After reaching the semi's of the individual event (narrowly missing the final by 12 hundredths of a second), Steve stepped up to anchor the 4x400m team home on Sunday afternoon, March 4th. After finishing an excellent second the winning Germans were subsequently disqualified for not having been to Cambridge or something equally as sneaky, and hence Steve and the GB boys won GOLD. No one from Oxford was in the team, nor in the final, nor at the champs. Full results here.

Also that day CUAC travelled to Iffley Road for the made-up, injury magnet that is VFEAR. True to form CUAC retained the men's track and women's field while OUAC retained the men's field and women's track. It was an enjoyable day despite the rain and cold and CUAC put together some very encouraging performances. Looking good for Varsity. Full results here.

28/02/07 STEVE GREEN NAMED IN GB SQUAD FOR EUROPEAN INDOORS!!!

CUAC Alumni Steve Green has been named in the Team for the European Indoor Championships which take place at Birmingham's NIA starting this friday. Steve will compete over the 400m alongside Rob Tobin and Dale Garland. For the full team see here. The list doesn't include anyone who's ever been to Oxford. Shame.

16/02/07 4th PLACE FOR MEN AND WOMEN AT RAF INVITATIONAL

At Sheffield EIS on valentines CUAC men sought to defend their trophy against some much stronger teams than last year. Sadly, with a slighty limiited team, the men managed 4th place, beating all the services and several universities and very nearly pipping UWIC for 3rd place. Meanwhile the women also managed 4th place, again very nearly beating UWIC. Overall the day had some impressive CUAC performances and was a good start to the team campaign. Full results available here.

13/02/07 STEVE GREEN IS A MACHINE. OFFICIAL!!!

This weekend (11/12 Feb) saw CUAC legend Steve Green start to show something of what we all knew him to be capable of at the Norwich Union European Trials in Sheffield. Steve ran the fastest 400m time of the competition in the semi's of 47.03s smashing his personal best and qualifying easily for the final where a less straightforward race landed him with a silver medal. Watch this space for possible senior international representation. Well done Steve!!

22/01/07 CUAC ATHLETES OPEN AT SEAA CHAMPS

The weekend of 20th/21st January saw a select handfull of CUAC athletes make there way to the new Picketts Lock Indoor Facility to open their seasons in this year's southern indoor championships. First up was Men's Captain Mike Collins simultaneously competing in the LJ and 60mH finishing 9th and 6th respectively with solid performances of 6.17m and 8.94s. Later that day saw Richard Ward return to competition with an immpressive bronze medal over the 3000m. On the second day Mike Collins added a 4th place in the shot put with 11.43m while Rich Ward also improved with a silver in the 1500m. Jumper Humphrey Waddington tested his fast twitch fibres with a debut 7.52s in the 60m-flat. President Kieran Millar also blew the cobwebs away with an easy sub 24 clocking over the 200m. Last but not least fresher Erica Bodman secured 7th place in the U20 women's high jump with a solid 1.55m jump. Full results here.

03/01/07 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Welcome to 2007. Soon Full Club Training (FCT) will kick off in earnest and before not too long there will be competitions galore culminating in some chances to whoop some scum at VFEAR and BUSA. Keep your eyes peeled for emails and keep checking the website regularly - particularly under FIXTURES and TRAINING SCHEDULE. Anyone already back in Cambridge should get in touch with Mike (mdc35) to organise training. See you soon!

10/12/06 118th X/C VARSITY: CUH&H DO BLUES DOUBLE AND OVERALL WIN 5-2!!!

Last weekend saw the Men's 2nd-4ths races and the Women's 2nd-3rd's cross-country races take place at Wandlebury, wins came for Men's II, Men's III and Women's III teams. Click here for full results.

Then, this weekend saw the two Blues matches battled out over Wimbledon Common, London. In the end both matches were won convincingly by the light blues. Click here for full results. Individual Men's Winner and general legend Paolo Natali was not quoted as saying: "It was easy, Oxford were rubbish, Will and I thought about stopping for scones half way round."

Congratulations to all involved and CUH&H in general from CUAC!!

23/11/06 ACHILLES COCKTAILS THIS SATURDAY

The venue for this Saturdays Achilles Cocktails party has been confirmed as the Robinson Party Room, Robinson College, free entry and drinks to all CUAC members and their guests (limited to one per member). Be there 8pm till late.

07/11/06 FRESHER'S SUFFER DOUBLE DEFEAT

On Sunday 5th Nov, despite some of the strongest performances for several years, CUAC's Freshmen Lost 106-95 to their Oxford Counterparts while the Freshwomen, hampered somewhat by last minute illneses, went down 106-83. Full results available here. An article will appear this week in Varsity. Also available here. President Kieran Millar said "I would like to congratulate and thank everyone who took part. I feel that the final results, although close, didn't really reflect how pleased both captains and I were with the performances of our teams".

22/10/06 STEVE STUART OBITUARY

As many of you will know, ex-CUAC and ex-Alverstone Steve Stuart was tragically killed earlier in the summer. Mike Collins has prepared an obituary, available here which will be published in the Achilles Annual Report. A bench, and a trophy to be awarded in his memory, will be bought with the money raised from the speed suit that was auctioned at the America's match banquet. Our thanks go to Andy Hodge who was the highest bidder for what was a questionable piece of CUAC memorabilia!

20/10/06 FULL CUPPERS RESULTS HERE!

Click here for full documentation of Jesus's return to the top.

16/10/06 JESUS DOMINATE CUPPERS!!!

Jesus dominated the weekend's intercollege competition, narrowly beating holders Catz in both the men's and women's competitions. Full result will appear shortly. Highlight's included fresher Jet Theriac's (Homerton) triple blues performances in SP/DT/HT and Phyllis Agbo's (Trinity) match and track record over the 200mH. Apparently Andy Owen won the 100m - shame on the rest of you!

15/10/06 CUPPERS - Intercollegiate athletics competition
