"I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb."
Revelation 7:9
Why do international work?
Christians believe that God rules over the whole world, and that his gift of salvation – given by grace and received by faith – is for everyone, first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. As followers of Christ, we have been given a great commission to make disciples of all nations, and what better way to do this than to introduce Jesus to international students whilst they are here at Corpus! We need to make an extra effort to befriend and to show practical love to those from overseas because they may find it hard to adapt to our reserved British culture. We also need to preach the gospel in a simple and clear manner that will breach the cultural and linguistic divide, making Jesus known to international students personally.
Please do contact the Int Rep if you have any ideas about how to serve God and the international students in Corpus, or would like to find out more about mission, or have an idea for the international slot in College group.
Things to get involved in
The Globe Café [Henry Martyn Hall, 19.30-21.30, Fridays]
The Globe Café is a weekly open house for international undergraduates. It has differently themed evenings and each week, a member of the team does a sort of "thought for the day" which is designed to be a springboard for conversation about Christ and Christianity. It's great to bring international student friends along to, or just to go by yourself!
Harry's [Henry Martyn Hall, 16.30-19.00, Fridays]
Harry's is a coffee bar run for international language students in Cambridge. It is run by Christian students from the university. It's a great opportunity for these students to make lots of new friends from the university and all over the world, learning about Jesus and reading about him in the Bible. They run optional Bible studies, which anybody is welcome to come to, even they've never heard of Jesus or don't believe in Him. More information is available on the Harry's website.
World Evangelism Prayer breakfasts - WEPB [St Andrew the Great, 08.00, Random Thursdays]
They are an opportunity to hear and pray about God's work around the world over breakfast. They are also a great way to hear about the different opportunities there are for short or long term missionaries in lots of countries, often straight from the people who work out there. For the next International Breakfast contact the Int Rep.
World Evangelism Prayer Groups are an opportunity to be involved in God's work worldwide through His church. They are a reminder that Christ's commission is to make disciples not only in Cambridge but all over the world.
World Evangelism Prayer Groups change the world! Where were you on holiday this year? As your suntan fades, come and intercede for something that will last forever instead. No expertise required!
Specific prayer groups are on the CICCU International page, but if you can't find a prayer group for a country/people group that you feel called to then why don't you start your own group?
