"Righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
Romans 3:22-24
We believe that everyone has disobeyed God and so deserve eternal punishment, but because of God's love he sent Jesus his only son to die in our place on the cross. There he took the punishment that we deserve for our rebellion against God on himself and so making us holy (pure) in God's sight. Through this God has saved us and so we can enter his kingdom (heaven).
Doctrinal Basis
Being a member of the Cambridge Inter-Collegiate Christian Union (CICCU), we have a doctrinal basis of beliefs. These contain the fundamental truths of God's revelation in the Bible, so that we might "all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God" (Ephesians 4:13). You can view the doctrinal basis of the CICCU here.
By presenting a fundamental basis of essential "non-negotiable" truths, it is hoped that all Christians will feel able to support each other through the College Group and unite together in evangelism, prayer and Bible study.
What if I'm not a Christian?
If you're not a Christian then we would be even more excited if you contacted us! Everybody is welcome at all of our meetings, whatever you believe, but if you're not a Christian then we have several things especially for you.
- In the Michaelmas term (that's the first one of the academic year, in layman's terms) we run what's called a "Christianity Explored" course, which runs for about six weeks. It covers all of the basics of Christianity in a very informal small group setting, and there's no need to come every week if you can't make it. More information about that will follow later.
- The university-wide CICCU also puts on lots of events for non-Christians. Every Friday afternoon (between 1.00 and 1.50pm) in St Andrew the Great Church (opposite Christ's College plodge) they run something called "The Friday lunchtime Talks", where you can get a free lunch and hear a talk (aimed particularly at non-Christians) on common misconceptions with Bible.
- Alternatively, look here to see what's happening this week, or contact us.
If you want to know what Christians believe, there's a pretty good site that explains the gospel very simply here.
