Parties

More than just visiting

CONTACT doesn't just arrange for students to visit elderly and housebound people, we also do our bit to entertain them in other ways - at our termly parties. These provide an occasion to celebrate the work we do bringing old and young, town and gown together.

CONTACT parties normally take place on the last Thursday of each university term. The Christmas Dinner party and summer Strawberry Tea Party are customarily held in Girton College, and the Easter party in Selwyn College. These normally involve 80-100 guests, made up of visitees as well as those on our waiting list for student visitors. They have become a landmark in our visitees' social calendar, and provide a welcome opportunity for them to meet old friends, make new ones and join their visitor in celebrating CONTACT's work. We usually aim to provide some kind of musical entertainment. See News for details of recent parties and the Newsletter for information about the next party.

Can you help out?

Even if you feel that the commitment of becoming a visitor might be too much, there are still plenty of ways you can help at parties. We're always looking out for musicians or vocalists to perform. Or you could help serve food and talk to visitees. Finally, you could help us with transport - a car and a spare afternoon is all it takes. If you're keen to help or have any ideas, contact our Events Organiser.
