Visiting
Welcome to the visitors' page
This page contains stories, ideas and information which we think to be relevant to current visitors.
The Hoodie
The CONTACT promotional hooded sweatshirt
One of the big problems we have in Cambridge is letting people know CONTACT exists, and another is staying warm. Why not solve both in one fell swoop with the CONTACT Hoodie! Please email our Publicity officer for details. They are a fetching light blue, and will help us spread the word about CONTACT to the rest of Cambridge. We have a limited supply of hoodies ready made, which cost £18.80 each and are available on a first come first served basis. If there is more interest, we will get more made over Easter - cost depending on how many people are interested. Sizes: small, medium and large.
The Handbook
The User's Manual for CONTACT visitors
All new visitors automatically receive a copy of the Handbook, which is full of useful information about visiting. If you have lost your copy, you can download a new one now.
In addition, we have information sheets available on specific topics, some of which may not be of relevance to all of our volunteers. If you need advice on visiting a deaf or blind/partially-sighted person, one who suffers from short-term memory loss,or just need to know how to use a wheelchair, you can download these here. You can also pick up copies of these from the office.
The Newsletter
Keep up to date with CONTACT
The Newsletter is how CONTACT keeps in touch with its visitors. It contains news about the parties and about the fundraising efforts of the Committee. It often includes contributions by the visitors themselves, too.
The Poster
Know somewhere good to hang up one of our posters? Then let us know! Email us and we'll gladly send you some. Or, if you prefer, you can download one yourself
Contact visiting is good for you!
New study proves that voluntary work reduces stress
A recent ICM survey of over 600 people commissioned by the Community Service Volunteers found that 48% of those who had volunteered (approximately half of the survey group) said that their charitable work made them feel less depressed. An even more impressive 63% of 25-34 year olds reported that it reduced stress. Earlier findings released last summer revealed other health benefits - especially among those aged 18-24. For those of us at Contact, there's only one question left: is there a better way of beating exam-related stress than becoming one of our visitors? For the full story, click here.
The facts about loneliness among older people
Making the headlines at last?
Visitors might have missed the publication of a study into loneliness among the elderly which made headlines in The Independent and other national newspapers in early March. The survey, commissioned by the Womens' Royal Volunteer Service (WRVS), is a reminder of just how important CONTACT's work is - and its publication in the mainstream media a rare exception to their usual silence on this important issue of social exclusion.
