SUMMARY OF MINUTES FROM MEETING ON 8/11/06
| Present: | | Brian Lavery, Chris Chau,
Salih Sheikh, Bella Wing-Davey, Kirsty Dootson,
Jenny Chamarette, Soheila Sokhanvari, Lydia Bell |
Apologies: | | Rob Petit, Rachel Powell |
- Society Officers
Shelley McLaren has asked if she could be College Rep
for Selwyn, although it is actually her husband who is the student there. We agreed that
this was fine.
- 48-Hour Competition
§ Apple Facilities Josh has said that Apple will lend us 4 computers
with Final Cut Pro on the Sunday (19th November) of the 48-hour competition. Brian will
try to book the Rylands Room in King's from 9am-8pm. One of the committtee needs to be
there at all times so we have arranged a rota. We will also ask Josh if he can be there
for some of the time himself.
§ Practice There are 3 computers with Final Cut Express in the PWF
so it would be possible for contestants to get a little practice first. We should remind
entrants that, for the competition as well as for using the PWF, they will need to bring
their own external hard-drive. It is worth remembering that PC and Mac laptops and iPods
may be used as external hard-drives.
§ Screening Kirsty will try to book the
Grad Union for the screening at 8pm on 23rd November. (The CUSU website gives a list of
rooms that can be booked.) Kirsty will also email Fatima about the possibility of booking
a room at Trinity and Bella will try at Robinson.
- Competitions Next Term
§ Super 8 Rob will check with the developers
in Switzerland to make sure that they are still running. If so, we should publicise the
event this term to give people time to prepare a little.
§ SocDocSoc and the 48-Hour Owing to the
large amount that we already have going on next term, it was felt that the best thing
would be to support SocDocSoc by lending them equipment but not actually to run this
competition as a joint Cinecam 48-hour. The current plan is to let the Super 8
Competition take the place of our Lent 48-hour.
§ Scriptwriting Competition We should begin
publicising next term's Scriptwriting Competition, for which the deadline will be
midnight on 31st January. Scripts should not be more than 10 pages long. We should remind
people of what a proper script looks like (Josh should be providing some guidance on
this.). The winning script will be made into a film funded by Cinecam.
- Celtic Film for Downing May Ball
§ Downing have asked if Cinecam would be interested in
making a film for their May Ball - the theme would be 'Celtic' and they're looking for
something up to 20 minutes long. There were several suggestions - that it could be made
as a Cinecam film or that, if we couldn't make it, that maybe the Cambridge Filmmakers'
Network might be interested. Bella is going to meet with them to get more specific details
of the kind of film they would actually like.
- Committee Formal
We provisionally agreed on having a committee meal after the screening of 'Ghost World' on
Monday 27th November. (The screening of 'Ghost World' would be moved forward to 7-9pm to
accommodate this.) Rachel will organise specifics.
- Accounts and Funding
§ Chris was present at this meeting and it was agreed to
have a more detailed accounts catch-up meeting with a subset of the committee on Monday 13th.
§ There has still been no word from Meg. Brian has been in
touch with our Senior Treasurer and we will now approach her again, copying him into
correspondence.
§ Bella has collected information on CUSU funding,
which she has passed to Chris. We should apply for this soon.
- Graphic Design
Soheila will look at customising the Cinecam forum on Proboards - and also designing a
poster for the 48-hour competition.
- Equipment
§ The old Cinecam camera is having problems with
playback and digitising. (The recording function still works and tapes are not being
damaged by the camera. It is still possible to digitise the recorded material, provided
a different camera is used for this.) Rob will have a look at it and, if he cannot
mend it, Salih will take it to Jessop's to get a quote.
§ It seems that the AV/XLR connector may be broken, as
it is nearly impossible to get a signal from the external mic into either of the Cinecam
cameras. (The mic and cable are fine as they were tested over the summer.) The only other
possibility is that the mic and cameras are simply incompatible. Salih will ask Jessop's
about this problem also.
§ We need a 4 to 4 cable for connecting the cameras to
a PC laptop. Brian will purchase one.
§ The head has been missing from the mini-tripod since
the 48-hour competition. We need to track this down.
