There are many ways to be involved with the film-making scene in Cambridge:
- Shooting your own film
Cinecam can help you find cast and crew, give advice on script, shooting and editing
and - most importantly - can lend you equipment for the shoot. (We are only able to
lend equipment to Full Members of the society.)
- Scriptwriting
If you have written a script and would like to find someone to direct and shoot it,
we can help. We hope to start running script workshops soon, offering the
opportunity for people to discuss their scripts together and get feedback. We also
run script-writing competitions from time to time, with the winning script being
produced as a Cinecam film.
- Editing
There are always opportunities for those keen to do some editing. Film-makers advertise
for editors on the Cinecam list (To join the list, go to
lists.cam.ac.uk, enter
soc-cinecam in the search box and follow the instructions.). Cinecam also runs
48-hour film-making competitions, in which teams go out and shoot and edit a film in 48
hours; editing sessions for 48-hour competitions are supported by members of Cinecam with
lots of editing experience who can offer advice.
- Working as Shooting Crew
Filmmakers will advertise for shooting crew on the Cinecam list. This could involve anything
from being Director of Photography to holding a boom or reflector.
- Acting
Filmmakers in the Cambridge area frequently look for actors for their short films. We will
advertise opportunities on the Cinecam list (To join, go to
lists.cam.ac.uk, enter
soc-cinecam in the search box and follow the instructions.). You could also
try the Cambridge Actors' List (To join, send an email to
soc-adc-actors-subscribe@lists.cam.ac.uk) and Varsity.
- Film Discussion and Screenings
We hold film screening and discussion evenings, according to demand. If you would
like to see more events of this kind or have suggestions for films we could screen and discuss
(including your own!), please let us know.
- Organising Film Events
We are keen to liaise with other societies and individuals who are interested in putting on
any sort of film event. In particular, we can help organise screenings for independent or
student films looking for an outlet.
- Join the Cinecam Committee!
A new committee is elected at the end of every Lent Term. Being on the committee is a great
opportunity to be involved in the organisation and choice of events in the Cinecam
programme.
