WORKSHOP: THE ART OF EDITING - WITH JOSH NEWMANThursday 1st March 8.30pm - Keynes Hall, King's College Many people have said that editing is the essence of producing a film. Francis Ford Coppola called it the "Engine Room" and Krzysztof Kieslowski said that shooting was only gathering material for the edit. Award-winning short film director Josh Newman, who has also worked as an editor in Los Angeles, will talk you through the techniques that filmmakers use to make their film that little bit more special. WORKING IN FILM EVENTFriday 2nd March 7.30pm - the Graduate Union, 17 Mill Lane (map) Six Cinecam alumni who are now working in the film industry will be giving brief introductions to what they're doing and how they got there. Wine will be available while you mingle with our speakers who have plenty of advice to offer all those wanting to make a career in the film industry. FREE FOR ALL
CINECAM FESTIVAL SCREENINGSaturday 3rd March 8pm - Queen's Building, Emmanuel This is THE event in the Cinecam calendar - we will be showcasing the shortlisted student films from this year's competition, judged on the night by professionals from the film industry, including Toby MacDonald [dir. Je T'aime John Wayne], Pippa Rimmer [Head of Exhibitions at Future Shorts] Franz Von Habsburg [of Brighton Film school], Charlie Phillips [of Four Docs fame] and Josh Newman [award winning filmmaker]. Prizes this year include: a free place at Brighton Summer Film School, £150 Heffers Vouchers and Future Shorts will sign one film for distibution. In collaboration with SOCDOCSOC and CIRF, filmmaker Giovanna Chesler will be giving a workshop at the New Museums Site on sound synching, using some of her original material to go through the processes of using sound in film. After the workshop, there will be a screening of one or two of her short films and an informal Q&A at the Graduate Union about her experiences as a filmmaker.
