BORROWING EQUIPMENT

To enquire about borrowing equipment, contact our Technical Officer. (See Contacts.) Full members of Cinecam may borrow equipment free of charge. Equipment can be booked for up to 5 days at a time and may be borrowed for longer if no-one else makes a request to use it. An online list of bookings will soon be available, linked from this page. (This will be read-only: you still need to email the Technical Officer to make a booking.)

EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE

DV Camcorder 1

Panasonic 4.0 Megapixel 3 CCD Camcorder NV-GS400. Our most recent addition, the Panasonic is an up-to-date and high resolution DV camcorder. Easy to use, and incorporating optical image stabilization for zoomed images, it comes complete with batteries, charger, 6 to 4 pin firewire cable and a carrying case. (images)

DV Camcorder 2

Sony DCR-TRV900E PAL. A digital video (DV) camera, complete with batteries, charger and AC power adapter. Comes in a convenient carrier case. Easy to use and with good image quality, this is the popular choice for shooting most anything. (NB Firewire not included.)

Stereo Microphone

IQ video SDX400. Battery powered mic, for mounting on the camera. Better than the internal microphone, it can still pick up some noise from the camera (easily filtered out digitally).

Jessops TP 320

Tripod for the camera. Quick to mount and detach once it's set up. (see opposite)

PARCO PT-205

Mini-tripod - comes complete with carrying case.

Portaflash Collapsible 3-in-1, 32 inch Reflector (x2)

Whatever your reason to change the 'temperature' of the image, this reflector provides the ideal tool to help you. The reflector includes silver, gold and white diffuser options depending on how you zip the expanded sheets together. When fully opened you get 32 inches of hand held reflector - when closed it's a mere 8 inches.

Editing Facilities

Cinecam is not currently able to offer access to editing facilities itself. However, for basic editing, iLife '06 (which includes iMovie HD 6 and iDVD 6) is available on the Macintoshes in the Balfour Macintosh Room on the New Museums Site.

There are also 3 Macintoshes in the PWF running Final Cut Express; the nominated Macs are Mac08 in the Balfour Macintosh Room, Mac01 in the Phoenix User Area and Mac01 in the Oriental Studies Basement. There is also one licence for Final Cut Studio (version 5.1.1), which is available on Mac25 in the Balfour Room only. The licence is owned by CARET and so could be withdrawn at any time. However, this does give you an opportunity to try out Final Cut Studio before deciding if you might want to buy it.

For more information about the PWF facilities available, see here; the PWF publish software updates here; for access outside standard hours, enquire at the Help Desk on New Museums Site. To use these editing facilities, you should bring an external hard-drive and connector cable, as PWF users are only allocated 500MB of space.
