What is Central Europe?
A geographic region: between the Alps and the Russian plains, between the Scandinavian and the Balkan Peninsulas?
A historic notion: the heirs of the multinational and multilingual Habsburg Empire?
A political term: former countries of the Soviet Bloc, now joining enthusiastically NATO and the EU?
A cultural idea: a peculiar blend of Germanic and Slavonic, Latin and Magyar, Catholic and Orthodox, Calvinist and Jewish?
What is CUCES?
We do not attempt to define Central Europe, we just want to offer an open forum for all people who feel they belong to this undefined part of the world or are in any way interested in it.
We organise parties (including our legendary Baltic Sea Vodka Party), concerts, poetry readings, formal halls, garden parties, talks and films, and inform you about events organised by other societies, with which we work together.
