The Chapel Choir in Sepia

The Chapel Choir in Sepia

The choir consists of twenty-four undergraduates and postgraduates from the university, with a core of college-based choral scholars; it is directed by the two Organ Scholars, Leo Tomita and Tom Chatterton, in collaboration with Ryan Wigglesworth, the Director of Music. Its primary task is to sing three services per-week: Choral Evensong on Wednesdays and Sundays and Holy Communion on Sunday morning.  The choir has a reputation for its vibrant, professional sound and performance of high-quality repertoire.

In addition to the chapel services, the choir regularly gives concerts and recitals, as well as international tours.  In May 2007 the choir performed Bach’s Johannes-Passion with a number of internationally renowned soloists, including James Gilchrist and James Bowman, and the period ensemble Charivari Agréable. In Lent Term 2008 the choir will perform Bach’s Mass in B minor in Lincoln Cathedral and Cambridge University’s West Road Concert Hall.

Corpus Choir is renowned for its international tours. In July 2007 the choir toured New York, singing services at St Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, Trinity Church Wall Street and St Patrick’s Cathedral. The choir also sang in a televised broadcast from Brooklyn Cathedral. A tour of Jerusalem is planned for July 2008.

Three CDs have been released in the past few years, the most recent of which, Regina Caeli, was on UK national release with the Lammas label. A further CD is planned for Easter 2008.

Members of the choir are given free singing lessons with the choir’s singing tutor, Jonathan Brown, and free Formal Hall every Sunday. In addition, there are social events throughout the year such as feasts, dinners and parties.

The choir is currently looking for some singers from all parts. Please contact Leo Tomita.

Everyone is welcome to attend all our services.
