The Bene't Club is the music society of Corpus Christi College, and exists to serve the musical interests of every member of college from the moment they arrive. With members being drawn from both the under-graduate and post-graduate student bodies as well as from the Fellowship, the Bene't Club encompasses a diverse musical community within what is a small and friendly college, as well as providing plenty of opportunities to meet musicians from across the University.
Twice each term, Fellows, students and old members of the college usually gather together in the Master's Lodge to perform a short evening concert. Keen to encourage individuality, the Bene't Club has often heard Bob Dylan alongside Mozart, and has even been treated to the delights of 'Clapping Music'. There is plenty of opportunity to learn more about the music after the concert, when tea and coffee usually provide a friendly background to discussion of the evening's programme.
At the end of every term, Corpus musicians are invited to join forces in an Orchestral Concert held in the Hall or Chapel. Often including musicians from other colleges, the Corpus Orchestra is an excellent way to enjoy often challenging music with other people. With plenty of opportunity to conduct, or to perform alongside the orchestra in one of the College's string, woodwind or a capella vocal ensembles, the Orchestral concert is the climax to what is always a musical term at Corpus Christi College. This year, the Bene't Club hopes to hold a Jazz evening and a Rock concert along with the traditional recitals and classical concerts held at the end of each term.
