Donation for the Simon Suess coxless pair:
The College is very pleased to announce with gratitude that an amount of £10,000 will be donated from the estate of Julius Suess, father of three Caian brothers, Nigel (1964), Nick (1966), and Simon (1971), to be used for the purchase for the Caius Boat Club from Carl Douglas Racing Shells of a convertible coxless pair/double scull to be named SIMON SUESS. In accordance with the College's agreement with the Suess family, the announcement of this gift is made on the tenth anniversary of the untimely death of Simon Suess aged 43 on 8th December 1996. |

Caius gets the Clocktower!
After 179 years, Caius has finally joined the elite group of colleges which have qualified to build a clocktower on their boathouse. Our recent history has seen 17 headships awarded out of the 30 possible since the Mays 1998 (our nearest rivals have a total of 6 headships in the same period). The success of the 1st Men's VIII in retaining the Lent Headship this year adds a fifth successive headship to their line of Lents victories from 2002. This, by the tradition adopted in Caius, gives us the right to erect a clocktower on our Boathouse. Plans are already under way to improve the Boathouse, and to include a clocktower as part of these improvements. Our congratulations go to the Captain of Boats, Tom Gray, to his mighty 1st VIII, to our new Boatman Simon Goodbrand (and to his predecessor Tony Baker, who helped out during every day of the Bumps), and to Caians and our sponsor Linklaters for their ongoing financial support. Nor do we forget the achievement of the 1st Women's VIII, who bumped up, and then rowed behind a formidable Clare to finish 2nd. Come on, Caius! Jack McDonald Senior Treasurer |
