23 JUNE 2005 - VACATION SAILING

That's all folks!

Casual sailing has officially finished for the year, but that doesn't mean you can't sail. The university boats are available to all full or summer members to sail throughout the vacation. However, please tell us if you are going to use them. This allows us to keep track of their usage and ensure you are covered by insurance. Likewise if anything is not functioning perfectly, please tell us too.

Your committee can be contacted at the following addresses:
     President - David Knight
     Vice President - Ed Gillett
     Social Secretary - Paul Dickenson

Have a great summer and look forward to all the great CUCS events planned for 05/06!

Just because exam season has hit most of the University, it doesn't mean you can't go sailing! This Friday there will be a trip leaving Harvey Court at 12 noon and returning by 6pm. As always everybody welcome for what is forecast to be a brilliant day for sailing. Please e-mail ejg52@cam.ac.uk to book a place. Anyone who finds themselves free this afternoon is welcome to join us if they are there by 12 as we have a few spaces in the MPV left.

As I'm sure you've noticed, not much has happened here for a very long time - we'll see what we can do about that. In the meantime, update your links to http://www.srcf.ucam.org/casual.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13 OCTOBER 2004 - PUB MEETS

We shall be meeting in The Mill pub (see the map page) every Tuesday evening at 9. Recognise us by the sailing stash we'll doubtless be wearing! Hope to see some of you there next week!

David has finalised the designs for the stash. They're posted on the forums, so come and tell us what you think! Click here!

05 OCTOBER 2004 - FRESHER'S SQUASH

The Squash will be held from 7.30pm on Monday the 11th of October, in the Trinity Hall Lecture Theatre.

Good to see so many of you at the Freshers Fair! The next step is to come along to our Freshers Squash (you don't have to be a fresher!) and chat to us in a slightly less hectic environment - maybe even join up as a member if you like what you see! If you can't make the squash then don't worry, as you're probably already on our email list and will get all the details of up and coming trips. If you're not on the list then see the news item below to sign up.

Minutes are available here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

29 February 2004 - CASUAL SAILING ELECTIONS

Casual Sailing Elections will take place this Tuesday, in the Mill Pub. I know the entire club seem to be totally apathetic, but maybe we'll get a few more people along than usual...?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

27 February 2004 - DART EXTREME FINISHED - NEW BOAT FOR CASUAL SAILING

If you missed out on todays trip, don't worry, all we did was stand around in the mud putting a new boat together. And walking all the way to and from the chandlery at the other end of the lake to buy bits. However, at the end of the procedure, we came up with this...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

21 February 2004 - GALLERY UPDATED

Right, 8 shots up from this winters activities. Some stunning pictures of the Dragoon in action this Friday just past!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15 February 2004 - LETS GET SAILING

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, and I hope you all had a lovely Valentines. You'll have noticed that things have been quiet for the last couple of months, mainly due to the fact that noone wants to sail in the dead of winter. (Yes, I was sailing on Boxing Day, yes I am mad.) Now that it's getting a bit warmer (no really, it IS!) and the light is starting to return things are starting to get going again. We've got a trip this Friday, and hopefully a few more before the end of term, and pub meets in the Mill of a Tuesday Evening are starting to become a little more populated, so please do come along! We hope this summer to run even more trips than last year, and take along even more people - possibly even run some one day courses during May Week and the preceding week to give beginners a real crash course. Hope we'll be seeing a great deal of you all in the coming months!

17 November 2003 - CASUAL SAILING CLOTHING

Well, we've finalised a list of 4 items that will be available! (Assuming sufficient demand) They are listed below with estimated prices.

  • The ubiquitous Hoodie! Small University logo and "C.U.Cr.C" on the front, and a cartoon (as non-tacky as possible) on the reverse with "Cambridge University Sailing". About £16.00.
  • Rugby Tops! Same design as the Hoodies, possibly without the cartoon depending on demand. About £20.50
  • Half Zip Fleeces. With embroidered university logo and "C.U.Cr.C" on the front. This could change if we actually come up with our own logo! About £21.00.
  • Body Warmers (Fleeces with no sleeves). Same as the fleeces. About £19.00.

More details, and discussions on important things such as colours, can be found >>here<<

19 December 2003 - NEW BOAT FOR CASUAL SAILING

The new catamaran, the Dart Extreme, should be ready and going for next term! It's going to be a lot of fun...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30 November 2003 - NEW WEBSITE

You may not notice any difference, but the entire site has been reprogrammed to run using PHP - a computer language that allows you to introduce a whole host of new features! The site should also run faster on slow connections. And in case you're forgetful, you get the day and date in the blue box at the top!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

18 November 2003 - WEBSITE HACKED

It seems that yesterday evening the website was malicously hacked, and various images changed. The poor quality of both the photoshop efforts and the code implicate none other than the President of the Club! Gasp!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 November 2003 - WEBSITE BACK UP

Apologies for the downtime over the weekend. It wasn't us, it was them! (Katamarino points at the Computing Facility)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

05 November 2003 - SATURDAY (8TH NOVEMBER) TRIP CANCELLED

Sorry, lack of transport...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

02 November 2003 - RESOURCES PAGE ADDED

Link added to the navigation bar at the top. This is a page of links to all kinds of useful sailing resources. Well, currently the minutes of meetings, the weather, and details about what we sail. We'll add more as we think of it! If you think of anything that might be good, put a post in the forums or send me an email! Address is at the bottom of every page!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

29 October 2003 - CASUAL SAILING CLOTHING?

Last year, we had some rather fetching hoodies made. Geoff (he gets in all the photos!) can be seen below modelling one in a rather poor photo. It's the best we have. What kind of things would people be interested in getting made this year? Make it something that you will WANT to wear! How about a Casual Sailing spray top? A Casual Sailing lingerie range perhaps? Let us know your ideas for 'products' and designs in the forums! If you want, you can even send us pictures!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

24 October 2003 - WEB STATS AVAILABLE

For anyone who actually cares, there's now a link to the stats about visitors to the site. It can be found at the bottom of the page next to the link to the news archives.

Trip was a success, more detailed report in the forums!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

20 October 2003 - WATERBEACH POLL

There is a poll going on in the General Discussion forum about the future of our sailing facilities at Waterbeach. This is an important issue and affects everyone who sails (as removal of the facilities should allow for better ones at Grafham). Please take the time to tell us what you think!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

17 October 2003 - FRESHER'S FORMAL

No places left on the formal, but don't worry, there will be another near the end of term with hopefully unlimited numbers!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14 October 2003 - IMPORTANT DETAILS IN FORUMS

There are quite a few new things to take account of in the forums, involving trips and socials coming up. Make sure you visit, and even vote on the future of Waterbeach!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 October 2003 - SUMMER SAILING TRIP?

At the committee meeting the option of a summer trip was proposed, to be open to members of Casual Sailing and others. This could consist of anything really, from a Sunsail Beach Club to time in the lake district near a marina, or anything in between. Obviously many of you haven't been sailing with us or even MET us yet, but don't let that stop you from having a look in the Trips Forum and letting us know what you think. We'll all be getting to know each other over the term and year, and something like this might be good fun in the summer! We'll let you know whether we're going ahead in a couple of weeks, so keep an eye on the forum...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

29 September 2003 - CRUISING CLUB SQUASH DETAILS

This will take place on Wednesday the 15th of October, in the Ramsden Room at St Catherines College. The Squash will run from 6pm until 8pm, feel free to drop by whenever you feel! More details in the forums (such as how to find the room!).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

31 August 2003 - NEW DISCUSSION FORUMS

New up - Discussion Forums. Here you will find information about trips, as well as a forum for general feedback, comment, and discussion about the club. An Off Topic forum has been created for anything you can't fit into the other two! In the forums you are also able to suggest changes to the club and book places on trips! Jump right in and get posting!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14 August 2003 - SOCIETIES FAIR

The beginning of term is coming, and so is the Freshers' Fair! We'll have a stand there so make sure you come along and sign up, we'll be there to answer any questions in person or just have a chat! Don't worry if you can't make it though, details of the squash will be posted soon. If you can't make THAT (what a busy life you must lead) then feel free to email me and get added to the mailing list.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14 August 2003 - A-LEVEL RESULTS

Congratulations to all those who got in, and I hope we'll be seeing you in October!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14 August 2003 - NEW WEBSITE

Out with the old and in with the new! If you're a regular visitor to these pages (and lets face it - who isn't?) then you will notice a slight change in the page format. Yes thats right, not only do you have a whole new committee, you now have a completely new website to explore and feast your eyes upon! Many new pages and much more information, all in a whole new format. Of course, no one is perfect (not even us!) and so there may be some tiny mistakes floating around. If you spot any then please let me know!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 August 2003 - We're back!

You might note that the last 'News' update was well over a year ago. All this should be set to change! We (the new committee) have now taken over control of the website and should be keeping it up to date. Look for plenty of new information, pages and pictures coming soon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

27 January 2002 - Sailing on the Cam

Starting from the beginning of the Easter Term 2002, the Casual sailing section will start offering sailing based at the Cam Sailing Club, at Waterbeach. We will have 4 of the laser 2s formerly used at Grafham moved to this new location, which is accessible from Cambridge by train or bicycle. As these boats will not be shared with the racing section on a daily basis, casual sailors will have access to them 7 days a week. UPDATE - CURRENTLY BEING REVIEWED
