4. Too tired from working? Need a shelter?

I hope the following Psalm would be a blessing for you all.
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall never be in want :)

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

In Christ,
Helen

Electronic copies of the passage could be found at the links below:

Acts 19 (English NIV version):

Dinner at 6.30pm this Wed as usual and you're very welcome to come and help.

Week 4 - Bible Study 2 (Acts 17-18)

"22 Do not those who plot evil go astray?
But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.

23 All hard work brings a profit,
but mere talk leads only to poverty.

24 The wealth of the wise is their crown,
but the folly of fools yields folly."~ Proverbs 14:22-24

Diving into week 4 it's easy to get overwhelmed by work at times,
but never forget that 'hard work brings a profit'
God knows what you're going through and if you persist
He will certainly reward you in ways you cannot imagine :)

Dear brothers and sisters,

After two weeks' break we'll resume bible studies and continue to look at Paul's journey from Acts 17-18.

Having studied the book of Acts for quite a while you should have observed the pattern of Paul's journeys in general - arrive at a new place, preach the gospel, many (in particular gentiles) believe yet the Jews resist and persecute them.

This time, I would very much encourage you to look at the passage in a different perspective. In particular, below are some things which you may want to think ahead and discuss in the bible studies:

1. We always heard about Paul preaching the gospel as he travels but very seldom do we see a full record of his sermons. This time, Paul's speech given at the meeting of the Areopagus in Athens was written down in detail by Dr Luke the author, and the only other time was when Paul preached at Antioch (Acts 13:13-41).
- Why is this piece of sermon significant? What are we to learn from this? By comparing the similarities and differences of the two sermons, try and find out why.

2. Two important cities/places in Paul's journeys were Corinth and Ephesus - the former is described in Acts 18 and the latter, in Acts 19. In the latter part of Acts 18 a new character Apollos appears - he is a knowledgeable man and a fervorous believer in God like Paul.
- Apollos is a very special person. Read 1 Corinthians and you'll see how later believers in the church were divided into two: some claiming to be a follower of Paul and some of Apollos. Is there something we can learn from here? Do we, at times, put our focus on the wrong "person"?

Electronic copies of the passage could be found at the links below:

Acts 17-18 (English NIV version):
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts%2017-18;&version=31

Acts 17-18 (Traditional Chinese version):
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts%2017-18&version=22

Dinner at 6.30pm this Wed as usual and you're very welcome to come and help.
If you are going to be late for dinner please send an email to jfdinner@yahoo.co.uk as well so we can reserve a dish for you.

*** DINNER ***

Tributes to Lord Michael Chan - http://www.cocm.org.uk/TributestoLordMichaelChan.htm

The Homecall of Lord Chan of Oxton (Chairman of COCM Council ) on 21st January 2006
Our dear Chairman, friend and brother in Christ, Dr. Michael Chan was called home at 9.25pm on Saturday 21st January 2006, aged 65.

Born in Singapore, Michael studied medicine at Guy's Hospital Medical School in London. He was a devout Christian and deeply involved in the Chinese Christian ministries in the UK and Europe. He was the Elder of the Liverpool Chinese Gospel Church and had been the COCM Council Chairman since 1982. Becuse of his contributions towards the Ethnic Minority healthcare and Chinese community, he was ennobled by the Queen as Baron Chan of Oxton in 2001. Michael chose "For me to live is Christ" as his motto on his crest, a perfect description of his ultimate goal in life and faithful service to the Lord.

A private funeral service for Michael was held on 27th January at St. Mary's Church, Upton, Wirral.

A Thanksgiving Memorial Service to celebrate Michael's life will be held in the Anglican Liverpool Cathedral on Monday 6th March 2006 at 2.00pm. You are all invited to attend.

Week 3 - Video Night: Yeah Show + JF Formal@Robinson

Dear brothers and sisters,

Video Night - "Yeah! show"

As advertised by Jowie in last week's meeting, this coming Wednesday we'll be showing video clips from Pastor Lam's "Yeah! show". In the video various celibrity guests will discuss in a light-hearted way some interesting phenomena between the two sex and share about their personal experience in relationships.

With all these differences between males and females, how do we face and deal with relationships? What do we do and where do we seek help from when things go wrong? All these point back to the origin of Love - the creator of this world. Come and see for yourself why this is so.

Do come and bring your friends too. Leaflets could be downloaded from here - feel free to distribute to your friends.

Offerings will be collected at the meeting this Wednesday - this is voluntary and non-believers do not need to take part in this.

*********Attention*********
Due to past experience it is very difficult to estimate the number of people having dinner at HMH so could I ask all of you to send an email to jfdinner@yahoo.co.uk LATEST BY noon Wed if you would like to come to dinner this Wednesday (and that you are not on the default list - if you are not sure then please send the email anyway).
