Cambridge International Development Summit 2009 - Welcome

CIDS was a weekend full of international development events organised in Cambridge jointly by the Cambridge Humanitarian Centre and the U8 Global Student Partnership.

  • On Friday Peter Colenso gave the opening speech for the weekend on the new Department for International Development White Paper: Eliminating World Poverty - Assuring our Common Future.

"A world shocked by recent global events and more connected than ever before means new approaches are required for the challenges we now face in pursuit of our mission." - White Paper consultation document
  • On Saturday it was the International Development Course. It consisted of lectures and seminars arranged in five different themed strands: Economics, fragile earth, gender, education and conflict+post-conflict.

  • On Sunday it was the delegates who ran the day! With space to discuss and represent research from U8 groups, skills workshops and networking sessions, the delegates made many important links and friendships.

CIDS took place in the 800th year of the University of Cambridge's existence.
