Brickhouse is all about getting as many people involved as possible.
There are lots of areas in which anybody can help - no matter how experienced you are.
Due to the nature of shows there often tends to be a lot of the term where seemingly very little will happen - and then all of a sudden the show is upon us and it'll be all-night lighting rigs, followed by 9am lectures.
There is a list of what people can help with generally below. For more information people us. Brickhouse has several email lists set up for getting information to interested people. Please join one if you are interested.
Acting
There wouldn't be a show without actors. As a general rule anybody can audition to act in any Brickhouse shows. We advertise as the show production comes into full swing - usually at the beginning of the term. To hear about when shows are wanting actors join one of our email lists.
Directing
The committee decides for each show how to ask for directors. Either an advert is put out for any director who would like to direct something at Robinson, or the committee decides on a show and then advertises for directors. Either way, if you are interested in directing, or learning how to direct, join one of the email lists and then you will be able to find out what is going on when.
Set Design / Building
Set always represents a chance to prat around, and make things that you never thought you could. Normally the people that end up making set have no experience at all at what they are doing. Set design is a good option if you feel more creative, whereas building just involves sawing things. We always need as many people as possible to help build things so join an email list and then just turn up!
Publicity
Publicity is a job which anybody can do (at least in some part). From actually coming up with ideas for posters to designing them, getting them printed and distributing them there is a lot to do. The only way to get people into Robinson is to persuade them that it will be good, and we are not far from the centre of town.
Technical
Technical theatre is really good, not at all dominated by saddos and generally weird people. Well, that's the way we try to make it. A show generally has to be put together in the theatre in the space of a weekend. That involves rigging and plotting lights, designing the sound, and dealing with the actors. Everybody is welcome to come in and learn how to do stuff - we have a very good theatre with great equipment, so come and make use of it. There are adverts on email lists for help during show times.
Front of House
For every performance we need 3 fire wardens in the theatre. These people have to be ready to get the audience out to safety in the event of a fire. If you do front of house for a performance then you get a free ticket in return for your work. This is a small committment, and suits people that are interesting in theatre, but don't have a lot of spare time. As ever there are adverts sent out on the email lists.
