Autoumpire Players' manual

Introduction

This manual is meant as a quick guide to the more commonly used features of the autoumpire, and does not cover umpire only or developer features. Hopefully this should answer any questions you may have on how to use the web interface, and you'll have to forgive a few of the niggles as the code is still ``under construction''.

Pointing your bowser at https://www.srcf.ucam.org/assassins/umpire.cgi should present you with the login screen:

Enter the details supplied in your sign up email in the boxes provided and press enter. You should then be presented with the following screen:

To logout click the circled link. Session will timeout automatically after a few minutes and you will be presented with the login page again if that happens.

Common problems

The Players' tab

You switch to this screen by selecting the Players tab (1). You can expand the list of all players whose first name begins with the shown letter by using the plus sign (2) next to the letter, and finally select the player you're interested in by clicking on him/her (3).

If this is your player display you can then manage your pseudonyms (4), and correct your player details (5), otherwise you can merely view these fields.

The Events' tab

You switch to this tab, unsurprisingly, by selecting the Events button (1). Again you have the same layout in the left hand list allowing you to examine any event based on when it occoured.

You may have noticed on the players tab the list of associated functions (2) - I'll get back to those later, just make a note that they exist for now.

The panel (3) shows the basic details of the event and these details can be edited here. The areas below (4) can be used to add participants, deaths and reports.

A quick explanation is in order here. Participants are who are present in the event, even if they didn't kill anyone, and this allows you to add information concerning them to, for example, the Headline, innocents killed, etc. Deaths are only added if it was a successful kill in which both parties were alive! Failure to comply with this will break some bits of the autoumpire. Don't do it.

Adding an Event

There are several ways to add an event, I'll just go over the most generic, add-event, however you may wish to use add-death, add-kill or add-event-with-report. first go to the function tab, or alternately select the relevant function of the Events tab as mentioned before:

(1) Takes you to the function tab, where you can select add-event (2), or some somewhat easier functions (3) which may shortcut some stages describe below.

You will then be faced with a list box (1), use control-click to highlight all the participants in the event. If one kill happened 5 minutes after the other rather than simultaneously, you should add them as different events. Click Add when you have done this.

At the next stage you can select what pseudonym each player will use for the event (1), input how many innocents were killed by each player [if any] and set the headline and time of the event. It is important that the time is correct as it cannot be changed later. When you're done, click "Add"

Next you enter any deaths. Select the killer and Victim and click Add Death until you're done. Then click "No more Deaths". You should now receive a confirmation message and then be redirected to the event viewing page, or directed to enter a report depending on the option you've picked.
