If you wish to play and have not been kept up to date by email, please read this page in full.
The visiting teams will be arriving on Friday night, and we will be meeting in the County Arms pub from 21:00, to await their arrival. Leeds will be arriving at about 22:00, and will be brought to the pub. Durham will probably arrive about midnight. We will then decamp to various cars and collect their stuff, and disappear off to the places they will be sleeping.
People intending to have visitors on their floors, it will be useful to have you at the County Arms slightly before midnight.
In the morning, people will need to deposit their guests in town for breakfast. The current suggestion is the Regal pub on Regent St (known to some as "spoons" or "weatherspoons") as a meeting point. You will not need to accompany your guests after this point.
The game will be starting at 12:45. I intend that the Cambridge people meet in a central location to plan the game start, from about 11:30 (although you can of course arrive later if you wish).
Objective 1: Flags
The objective here is for the visiting team to take one of the flags from one of two locations, and move it to the base of the second flag. The visitors will then have to keep the flags together at one of the bases until the end of the phase. The objective for the Cambridge team is to prevent them from doing so.
This phase will take place behind the Chemistry department, in the series of roads around Panton Street [map].
The red crosses mark the objective locations.
13:50: Universal Respawn All dead players come alive again, but are asked not to do so right next to the other side.
Both teams have a short break to regroup, and the defenders (Cambridge) move on to the next objectives. The visitors will be encouraged not to attack immediately during this regrouping stage.
During this phase, the flag objective is no longer active - it will have been won or lost.
Objective Two: General
A member of the Cambridge team dressed in an obvious military officer's jacket (and possibly a silly hat) will be patrolling a route that passes up and down Jesus Lane and King Street [map]. The attacking team are tasked to eliminate him, while Cambridge will have a few of their most dangerous defending the general. A kill of the General will constitute completion of the objective.
Objective Three: Point Capture
The attackers will have to capture a static location and hold it until the end of the period. Cambridge will be defending the location. The location will be behind the Grafton Centre, and probably marked by a series of flags or some other obvious marker. [map]
The Grafton Centre itself will be strictly Out of Bounds.
15:20: Universal Respawn As before.
Objective Four: Document Capture
Two of the Cambridge players will be entrusted with important documents. One of these will be based on Midsummer Common [map], and one of them will be in the network of roads bounded by Jesus Lane, the river, Bridge Street and the edge of Jesus Green [map].
The attackers must hunt down and capture these documents, by killing the Cambridge players holding them, who will then stay in place (hand in air to admit to being dead) and hand over the documents to anyone taking them. Cambridge will be trying to keep these documents safe.
The image shows the areas where the Cambridge teams will be.
16:10: General respawn. Cambridge will respawn on the final objective (see below), Durham can respawn in either of the previous areas defined for the previous phase.
Objective Five: Bridge Control Capture
The invaders now attempt to secure a route of escape. Their objective will be to capture and hold the bridge control hut protecting their escape route.
This will be the hut in the middle of Jesus Green, next to a narrow foot-bridge (which I'd prefer to keep combat off for the most part in order to avoid annoying passers-by).[map]
This will then conclude the game, and we'll go to the pub.
Gaps between phases of the game are for people to get into position around the next set of objectives. It is NOT legitimate to engage the enemy during this period, or for players to camp the objectives waiting for the start of the phase. Players should wait until after the start time to launch their attack.
In addition to the Universal Respawns, there will be additional resurrection during the phases. Any dead player can return to the Avery pub, off Parker's Piece, and can then respawn half an hour after their time of death. Attacking people right outside this pub is not a legitimate tactic.
Any hit to any part of the body constitutes a kill. A hit with a water weapon is defined as spots of water constituting the total area of a 5p piece or above.
Any hit to a weapon will kill the user unless it was clear that the weapon was well away from the body and the shot would have killed otherwise. In case of disputes the default position is to be dead.
Please note: It is not legal to use Out of Bounds areas for flanking attacks and manoeuvres.
