James has occupied the hut at the foot of the valley for most of his 60+
years, and cares for the woods and fields belonging to the manor with
ruthless skill. He is effective at raising pheasants and culling deer,
though is reputed to take alarming risks when killing things, and to be
somewhat careless of his own life. The other villagers respect his
honest and friendly character, but are just a little worried at how much
he seems to enjoy his guns.
