About Fawndale

Fawndale is a picturesque village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. It is many miles to the nearest town, hence the village is heavily self-reliant and inward-looking. The pace of change is slow, and many residents have lived in the village for their whole lives. Fawndale is a trusting, sharing, community, where people rarely have secrets, and crime is unheard of.

The area is hugely popular with walkers and nature lovers, due to its scenic surroundings and impressive hills nearby. The river Fawn meanders round the edge of the village, and the climate is mild as the village is shielded by the hills on all sides. The Fawndale way of life is relaxed and supportive, with such little movement to or from the village, most people have known each other for years.

However recent events have cast a dark shadow over our village. The parish council was horrified to discover that the area of land around our village had been earmarked to be transformed into a huge new reservoir. The construction contract had already provisionally been awarded to the Digemup corporation, with Chief Executive Matthieu Garotte reportedly desperate to clinch the deal. We shuddered as we read how we were considered a "prime development site" and how a new water storage facility would "ensure that the North East's changing demographic needs were met for decades to come." We were not prepared to see our homes, livelihoods and environment treated like this. Councillor Chase spearheaded our campaign against this unnecessary invasion of our countryside. She discovered a local byelaw, dating back to 1793, stating that any major change of land use could be approved only with the unanimous support of all village landowners, coincidentally all those currently sitting on the parish council.

We thought that our problems were over, but it appears that the Digemup corporation were not prepared to give up so easily. It is rumoured that some of the villagers have been either bribed or threatened by Garotte's agents to ensure unanimous support for the reservoir in the village, by whatever means necessary. Whilst any such villagers would never dare admitting to being in favour of the proposals, other villagers are scared. Doors are locked and friendly conversations have become tense exchanges. No-one doubts how far Digemup is willing to go to ensure that they secure their contract.

Councillor Chase took these concerns to the police, but she was assured that the police were already dealing with the problem and had their agents in place to discover who was working for Digemup. Councillor Chase only hoped that they would be effective enough to catch the traitors, and to secure the safety, and ultimately the future, of Fawndale.
