Rule changes for Michaelmas 03
For returning players who are already familiar with the ruleset, this page should identify the key elements of the rules that are new. But it's probably worth giving the whole set a once-over, just to make sure. This page will also be updated as necessary during the game with any clarifications or new rules that need to be made public. Remember, unless stated otherwise, a rule applies from when it is on the website.
Pre-Game
- Any guns with a rifle rather than hammer mechanism, e.g. Joe Devils guns or pellet rifles, must be registered with the umpire before use.
- All non-standard weapons must be registered with the umpire before use. Non-standard should be taken to mean "not stated in the rules that it doesn't need registering."
- The bomb rules have been significantly rewritten, the only change in meaning being that barriers between the bomb and the target now have a slightly simpler effect.
- You cannot safely open a letter or detonate a bomb in a no-kill zone.
- For an incompetent player to regain competence, they must make 2 attempts as specified by the umpire.
- A style bonus of 2 days extra competence is awarded to the players who contribute most to the game in the first week.
- Remember that corpses cannot pass information on about live players; in particular they should not announce on IRC that they are dead for 20 mins.
New rules:20/10/03
- Rule 1.2.5 has been added to to remind all players that you should not impersonate authority figures in college, e.g. porters or bedders. Additionally, you should not use such people to gain access to a target's room.
- Rubber pellet rifles, Joe Devils guns etc, may be licensed with the umpire, you must register them before use and if allowed, the gun will be registered to you, so other players should not use it.
- Boulders now do not act as shields
- If the umpire sees an attempt being made, he will not act as a witness and pass information about the event on to live players.
- The CUR 1350 studio in Churchill is totally Out of Bounds.
New Rules:26/10/03
- For the Sunday evening meetings of the Lazerquest society, CULLS, not only are you out of bounds while at the venue, but also when directly approaching or leaving it.
- The entirety of E staircase Selwyn is now an Out of Bounds Zone.
Extra Clarifications:6/11/03
- Anyone going to the 8p.m. showing of the Matrix Revolutions at the Grafton Centre on the 6th is OUt of Bounds whilst approaching, inside, and leaving the cinema. Without being precise, roughly a 5 minute walking radius should be considered out of bounds, or to the player's college if that's closer.
- Devious bombs: Explosive may be placed under a player's door, provided that it is in a closed container. There is a strict maximum of 1.2 litres of explosive that may be used on such a bomb. There should be a label on the outside of the door so that e.g. a bedder would not receive a huge surprise on opening the door! This should also state the blast radius. Any such bomb must be individually licensed with the umpire before use.
