EVENT LOCATIONS

OUTDOORS

ALSO have reviewed this biennially since 2000. This is only a sketch.

For Battle Killing Events, Colleges are out of the question.

So are sports fields if the policy of Groundsmen to only accept bookings for College Team Matches or serious College Team Practices is as widespread as we estimate.

Christ's Piece and Jesus Green have seen aggressions toward Assassins and/or LARPers even in broad daylight. Midsummer common is of a similar "feel".

Parker's piece is very often too crowded, faces the Police Station and is now rumoured to have or be about to have 24 h CCTV coverage following yet another stabbing incident there.

Sheeps Green is too boggy and cut up with streams for serious combat.

Lammas Land has a very low bystander density except through the Lastbridge. It is suitable without restriction on fighting numbers or calibre, so long as the fighting is: 1) not across the Lastbridge/ the little bridge behind that/ the path between them 2) not in the playground 3) not after dark as it is a mugging and drug trafficking hotspot then. The situation with construction works there, however, should presently be monitored (2006).

Queens and Clare backs are suitable as follows. 1) There is no firing or throwing onto/across the encircling paths in the Clare backs. This makes it essentially impossible to have a battle there with more than 2 CPS's or a throwing match with more than 8 (the trees limit many throws). Though one can fit an 8 and a separate 6 on the next bit. 2) nothing used must at all threaten the traffic or the parked cars next to Clare backs. 3) The Queens backs have more room but substantially less cover. Here, it's wide enough to ban people from firing into the strip adjacent to the road. Combat will probably have to stop for bystanders on the path if more than 6 separate units use CPS.

All other green bits up to the Lammas radius are too small, bottlenecked, or private in character. Moreover, none up to 1 mile further out had as low a bystander density as Lammas Land, at least as sampled in 2002 and 2004.
