Mostly organized by ALSO (who provided the Knight) and held as a Guild Social Assassins Activity:

CHALLENGE THE BLACK KNIGHT

EVENT ANOUNCE

The Black Knight is putting up his Black Silk Pavilion on the Field of Lammas and Challenging All Comers (single or in pairs!) to Combat with their choice of Poleaxe (CPS supersoaker), Longsword (xp supersoaker) or Shortsword (rubber band pistol). Black Heraldically-Emblazoned Towels will be available on request. Those present not presently Challenging are welcome to hold further Duels of this kind adjacently...

From 2 p.m. onwards Saturday 11th Feb 2006 Lammas Land is off the Fen Causeway, which itself is off Trumpington Street: http://www.cam.ac.uk/map/v3/drawmap.cgi?mp=main;xx=1730;yy=1371;mt=a;ma=200;tl=Fen%20Causeway

In fact we'll be where the tail of the big red arrow in the map is, which is visible from the Fen Causeway itself. This activity will enhance your ability to emerge victorious from `the smaller encounters' as may occur in upcoming Mayweeks and Varsity Matches. If you have such, be welcome to bring your own waterguns/bandpistols, loaded. If not, a few spare will be present.

THE KNIGHTLY NEWS BULLETIN

The Knight Defeated Philip in an xp fight.

Philip and Jake double killed in a RBG duel.

Philip and Jake take on the Black Knight with RBG's. There are several loop rounds to make people irrelevant due to the wind direction. Eventually the Black Knight outmanoeuvres Philip only for Jake to concurrently outmanoevre him, permitting Jake to charge with wind advantage, resulting in a double kill.

The Black Knight then takes Team Philip-Jake on in an xp fight, slaying them both by superior use of positioning and wind-conditions (his deliberate goading of Jake to be cut off by a ditch was valuable in taxing Philip's water and undoing their hope of getting one on either side of the Knight, while Jake was methodically cut up with a deliberate armshot to strangle his pumprate).

All on All CPS 1000 round. Philip survives sorely wounded from Jake's second charge by good use of a tree. Jake is very wet. Despite being legless, Philip has several advantages. The tree. The fact it's next to a stream so the Knight can't circumnavigate when Philip is out of water faster than Philip can crawl. And a properly working gun - the knight's is old and rusty and has lost rather more range than that lost by Philip having no legs. The Knight methodically sliced Philip's right arm off, then attacking from the right, with several lunge-pullbacks not generating return fire. But the Knight had failed to register he's left-handed. That permitted him to launch a fast, steady jab from cover that took off the Knight's right arm and my legs (More Limb-Loss Between us than even in Monty Python!) from which position Philip more greatly outranged the Knight. After some cunning use by both parties of overhanging branches permitting fire out but not fire in, The Knight drew Philip out in hot pursuit (insofar as crawling is hot pursuit) so as to launch a flying lunge at him when his need to pump-du-pump beset him, but, before he needed to (and despite the Knight's elegant legless dodging 3 of Philip's shots), Philip succeeded in bringing the knight down a good 25 minutes after his second leg loss. Thus, everybody, do not give up when your limbcount is sparse... And both Philip and the Knight are frankly offended at the idea that 3 limbs lost amounts to death [c.f. Varsity rules], having fought thus enertainingly and technically for 15 minutes each, and in Philip's case having pulled back after attaining single-limb status beforehand...

The Knight defeats Jake with xp 220 to xp 20 either once or twice (a stomach shot was called and indeed found, but the 20 was also leaky, being essentially broken since 2000 and taped shut after having its tank filled).

The Knight kills Gordon likewise, with an arced shot aiming for the back (actually getting head) as a riposte to Gordon's forward-leaning charge. Fight was amusing as both simultaneously estimated wind-direction with off-hands.

Simeon fights Philip with bandguns (outcome unknown)

All-on-all bandguns. Simeon benefits from Philip-Jake double killing by looting them. The wind and the sun are aligned, causing the Knight to frumiously push Simeon round. But Simeon now has vastly more ammo and so the knight can't keep the advantage for long. After 6 pi rotation thus, the knight only has 1 band. Thus he does not veer from Simeon's charge, but drops low while keeping his gun up. Unfortunately for the knight, his shot is 6 inches too low (mostly due to the wind), while Simeon's 2-gun barrage registers a touch on his head.

In the second CPS round, the Knight opened by cutting Simeon down and then Philip came at him dual-wielding after looting Simeon. Jake charged Philip from behind with a xp 20. Philip turns and cuts him down. The Knight did Philip in just as he'd described to Mr Borin in the pub upon Mr Borin's demonstration of a particularly quick duck. The Knight jabbed at 45 degrees. Philip ducked so easily that the knight anticipated he'd duck again if his next attack was "identical". So, using that premeditation is much faster than reaction time, he launched an identical jab...-downcut double well before he even started easily ducking the jab by moving into the path of the downcut.

VIOLENCE SUMMARY

Knight: '8 1/2' kills, 3 deaths, wounded once (but greviously - 3 limb hit), inflicted 6 wounds.

Philip: 5 kills, 5 deaths, 3 wounds sustained, at least 1 wound inflicted. 1 opportunist looting.

Jake: 3 kills, 8 1/2 deaths.

Gordon: 0 kills, 1 death

Simeon: 1 kill, 1 death, 1 wound sustained, 1 opportunist looting.

The Knight has to say:

Bandguns were a bit too doublekilly for my liking. On the other hand, no opponents even touched me with xp's, while i inflicted 5 wounds and got 6 kills with these.
