You are cordially invited to an Archaeological Field Club Garden Party in collaboration with the Magdalene Arch and Anth Society between 3.30 pm and 9.00 pm in the Fellows Garden of Magdalene College on Monday 14th June. Some suitably ethnographic or archaeological dress code will be announced later.

A core cache of Pimms will be provided by the Senior Member of the Magdalene Arch and Anth Society, but any contributions in kind will be welcomed from participants. At least one punt should also be available.

AFC FEAST!

We are delighted to announce that this year's Archaeological Field Club Feast will be held at Murray Edwards College on SATURDAY, 27th FEBRUARY. There will be a drinks reception at 6.30pm, followed by dinner in the Dome at 7pm. The after-party will take place in the college Bar after dinner, until 1.30am. If you want to be in the official Feast photograph, make sure you arrive before 6.50pm! 

The speaker this year is Professor Martin Carver, current editor of 'Antiquity' and former head of the Archaeology Departtment at York University. In a distinguished career, Martin most led the most recent excavations at Sutton Hoo and the Pictish monastery at Portmahomack.

The Feast is the most exciting night in the AFC calendar, and is definitely not to be missed! All are welcome, be they non-archaeologists or non-members, undergrads, grads, or staff.

HOW TO ORDER YOUR TICKETS: emai


- Please give us your name, your college and the number of tickets you'd like to buy. 
- Then for EACH ticket you want, please give us the name of the person the ticket is for, which kind of ticket they'd like (ie Member Drinking, or Non-Member Non-Drinking, or Reduced Membership Non-Drinking etc), and any dietary requirements. 
- You'll then get an email back confirming your place(s) and telling you how much you owe. 
- If you want to, you can also give us the names of two other people you'd like to sit near, and we will try to seat you with them - though we absolutely can't promise anything. 

COLLECTING AND PAYING FOR YOUR TICKETS:

Tickets are to be collected from the department common room on either Tues 23rd and Weds 24th Feb, between 1pm-4pm. You can hand over your cheque or cash for the tickets then, and no tickets will be handed out unless payment is given first. If you can't make either of those times to collect your ticket, either arrange for a friend to pick them up for you (and tell us who it is!), or mention it in your original email and we'll work something out through UMS or post.

Due to Prof. Wylie's lecture on the third of Feburary, the AFC talk by Tim Darvill has been postponed until the 10 Febuary . The time and venue, however has not changed. May I encourage as many of you as possible to go and hear Prof. Wylie, it promises to be a very interesting lecture. Kate, Webmaster

 

Alison Wylie Lecture, 3/2/10, 4.30pm McDonald Institute Seminar Room

Professor Alison Wylie (Leverhulme Visiting Professor at Reading) will be giving a Special Leverhulme Lecture (in collaboration with the Garrod Seminar Series) on 3rd February 2010 at 4:30pm in the McDonald Institute Seminar Room. Professor Wylie will discuss, "What Counts as Archaeological Evidence: Legacies of Collaboration:" All are invited to the talk and to the following wine reception to greet Professor Wylie.

ure Room we will have another guest speaker. This week we have Roxana Ferllini coming to give us a lecture on the challenges in the field of forensics with particular emphasis on human rights. Roxana currently lectures at UCL and has vast experience in the field of forensics and human rights. This lecture will be particularly useful for part IIB students as it will
involve some of the issues relevant in the A4 Death and the Body core
paper. Hope to see lots of you there!

AFC Careers Talk
We are pleased to announce that we will be welcoming a range of speakers
from various career paths to give their perspective on working in
archaeology. Speakers will include county archaeologists, unit workers and
museums' sector staff. There is currently no careers event offered for
archaeology by the careers service, so we hope that this event will prove
both helpful and popular.
